Today I’m sharing what I think are the best Shopify themes for young businesses who are looking to DIY their Shopify store setup and design.
Spending a little more on a premium Shopify theme will pay you back with the gift of time – you’ll spend less time getting frustrated with all that a free theme is lacking and more tie getting your products up and ready for sale on your Shopify store.
All of the Shopify themes mentioned below are by the developer group Out of the Sandbox, they have several themes available for sale, but I chose these because they are compatable with Shopify 2.0 and the customer support they provide is really incredible – so you never have to worry that you’re on your own when you purchase one of their easy to use Shopify themes.
Turbo Theme for Shopify
If site speed is a concern for you, then the Turbo Shopify theme lives up to its name and more! Shops with lots of images and/or video, or a large catalog will love how fast this Shopify theme performs – you can even choose your performance speed to be “Ludicrous” or “Sport” without having to rely on clunky apps or digging into the code to make speed enhancements. I love how they named those options!
On top of that, purchasing this theme allows you access to 6 different styles within the same theme, so you can hit the ground running on design.
Built in extras like a newsletter popup and highly customizable Mega Menus take so much of the guesswork out of building your Shopify store.
Flex Theme for Shopify
Flex Theme by Out of the Sandbox, is the mac Daddy of all Shopify themes, and also the most expensive, clocking in at nearly $500. But you get a lot of bang for your buck with this fully loaded, easy to customize Shopify theme.
For starters, this Shopify theme comes with 13 premade styles, with demo images included, so you could in theory just pick one and run with it just as it is and have your Shopify store up and running really quickly.
But the beauty in this theme is the ease of customizations! You can easily add custom specific CSS without having to search in the code, choose one of the 4 different header layouts and flexible section layouts that you have full design control over, to make a Shopify store that’s truly unique and one of a kind.
You can also choose from 3 predesigned product page layouts, get creative with their included icon library, or style out your blog section precisely to your specs.
Responsive Shopify Theme
Responsive is the most affordable option of the Shopify themes in this roundup but still provides great value and is super easy for the DIY business owner to modify and customize.
You can take advantage of it’s unique sidebar setup to add custom menus or guide your clients to search and filter your products. There’s Customer Testimonial and Promotional Banner sections already built in, you just need to customize with your own details and you’re good to go without relying on an app to support you.
The Responsive Shopify theme comes with 4 built in styles that you can use as a starting point for further customization, or use as is!
Wading through the endless Shopify theme options can be overwhelming. My advice for DIY Shopify stores when picking a theme is to first make a list of all the functions you need your store to have, for example: pop-up promotions, photo zoom, out of stock alerts. Then choose a Shopify theme that has these built in, rather than choosing a theme on looks alone. These easy to use Shopify themes come packed with most things Shopify merchants need – and the support provided by the developer (Out of the Sandbox) is second to none in friendliness and helpfulness!
